Meet the Client
This app was an interesting project for Leaware. Integrating science with digital products and medicine is very innovative. The Photon Needle management app allowed doctors to use X-rays in a very precise way for cancer surgery. The Photon Needle Control System (SSIF) was used in intraoperative treatment using the INLINE PN50 X-ray generator. It supported radiotherapists when entering patient data.
The program’s task was to enable contractors to control the irradiation process. The continuous control of the generator’s operation in the control panel contained data in text and tabular form. When required, data can be presented as charts, diagrams, and maps.

Challenge
An application of this caliber was a challenge for Leaware, but we did it. The computer program was implemented considering the standards and principles of radiation safety provided by the contracting authority.
The application was written in .NET technology using the Windows Presentation Foundation graphics engine. The application used a .SQLite file database.
The program was supported by hospital employees who were familiar with medical terminology.

This application is one of the most complex developed in Leaware and it helped us lay the foundations for future projects. The software allowed users to enter and save patient data, check the status of the generator before a procedure, and monitor the irradiation process during treatment. The system also recorded the irradiation processes in the post-treatment report. Functional requirements described activities, operations, and services performed by the system. Non-functional requirements described the limitations with which the system should perform its functions.

Benefits
There are many things that we can say about Leaware as beneficial and we can mention:
• Editing, importing, and saving patient data in the treatment database.
• Editing and saving treatment plans in the treatment database.
• Editing the hardware table from the hardware base.
• Monitoring the generator’s tests before the procedure.
• Producing generator test reports in PDF format.
• Previewing patient data from the treatment base before the irradiation process. Editing and saving radiotherapy data.
• Verification of patient data and radiotherapy data.
• Monitoring the irradiation process.
• Generating treatment reports in PDF format.
• Creates detailed statistics.

Results
As usual, the digital products developed by Leaware are very effective and of the highest quality. The software provided great results during the testing stage and The National Centre for Nuclear Research in Poland had many potential partners from the European Union. Public and private healthcare entities showed interest in the Photon Needle project being implemented in other ongoing healthcare projects. Later, The National Centre for Nuclear Research saw a great opportunity to merge the project with cancer treatment technologies in Switzerland.
