Objective

Our primary objective was to showcase our ability to develop an innovative augmented reality (AR) application for the automotive industry. 

Meet the Client

KIA Corporation is a multinational South Korean automobile manufacturer. It is the oldest and second-largest automaker in South Korea, with sales of more than 2.8 million vehicles in 2019. Headquartered in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, KIA is part of a broad network of subsidiaries under Hyundai Motor Company.

KIA has always been on the forefront of technology and innovation in the automotive industry. To maintain their competitive edge and cater to a tech-savvy customer base, they decided to explore the potential of augmented reality for an interactive and immersive customer experience.

Challenge

The challenge was to develop a prototype AR application that could enhance customer engagement and provide a novel, interactive experience for users. The app needed to be capable of imaging virtual objects based on the image read by the camera, including videos, text messages, 3D objects, and photo galleries. 

Solution

Leveraging our proficiency in AR app development, we used Metaio AR technology to create the AR Omnium App for Windows and Mac iOS platforms. The application was planned based on the existing Metaio AR SDK, but it brought in new features and capabilities that have not been implemented before.

Benefits of the App

The AR Omnium app provided a unique platform for KIA to enhance customer engagement through an immersive, interactive experience. By placing virtual objects in the camera’s view, the app offered users a chance to interact with KIA’s products in a new and exciting way. This augmented reality experience not only boosted customer engagement but also helped in visualizing KIA’s innovative design and technology.

Results

Though the app was initially launched for a limited number of KIA employees in Germany (approximately 100 users), it was met with positive feedback and reviews. This early success sparked interest in a broader roll-out of the app to enhance customer experience and engagement. 

Data and Evidence

While the quantitative data is limited due to the prototype stage and the limited user base, the qualitative feedback from the users was highly encouraging. The app was appreciated for its innovative use of AR and the immersive experience it provided. 

Lessons Learnt

Through the development of the AR Omnium app, we learned valuable lessons about integrating AR technology in app development, particularly for the automotive industry. The project reinforced our understanding that innovation and user experience are paramount in today’s tech-centric world. 

In conclusion, the AR Omnium app project underlines our expertise in creating cutting-edge AR applications that enhance customer engagement and provide a unique, interactive experience. Through our successful collaboration with KIA, we have demonstrated our ability to deliver innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of the automotive industry.
