Braveland: health in an RPG style, built with Flutter

Client: Braveland

Business context

Braveland is an innovative mobile app project for iOS and Android that combines nutrition education and physical activity with RPG game mechanics. The goal was to turn exercise and healthy eating into an adventure users would be eager to return to.

There is a clear market trend towards sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy habits, particularly among office workers. Braveland addresses these challenges by offering an engaging way to support healthy behaviours in a light, entertaining format. The project is being delivered in Germany, in the Entertainment sector.

From a business perspective, the key objective was to create a product that would stand out at the intersection of the health & fitness and mobile gaming segments. A single codebase was chosen for both platforms to accelerate development, simplify iterations, and validate user hypotheses more quickly.

Challenge

The greatest challenge was to integrate real physical activity and healthy eating principles into compelling RPG mechanics in a credible and motivating way. The experience had to be designed so that users would feel real benefits and want to return to the app consistently.

An additional challenge was selecting a technology that would support both iOS and Android simultaneously without compromising performance or UX quality. It was also necessary to ensure a consistent experience across both platforms and allow content to scale easily as the product evolved.

It was important to design an engagement loop and progression system that would not discourage beginners while still supporting a gradual increase in difficulty. At the same time, the team needed to plan a process for gathering feedback from early users through open testing.

Solution

The team selected Flutter as the core technology to deliver a high-quality multi-platform experience based on a shared codebase. This approach accelerated development, made it easier to maintain feature parity, and ensured a consistent interface across iOS and Android.

At the heart of Braveland is an RPG game that uses gamification to reinforce healthy habits. Users immerse themselves in an adventure world and complete movement-based tasks and nutrition education goals, which translate into character development and story progression.

After 18 months of production, around 50% of the story mode had been completed. The app remains in active development, and the team has launched open testing with its first users to systematically gather feedback and iteratively refine the product.

“The personal role-playing game (RPG) skills of the developers and the team leader were of significant importance to this project.”
