Atendi.Care: shorter waiting lists in senior care
Business context
In 2014, as the digitisation of healthcare services in Belgium accelerated, Atendi recognised the need to create an integrated solution for senior care. The key issue was fragmented and outdated patient databases, along with long waiting lists that caused frustration among patients, families and institutions.
The aim of the project was to demonstrate the possibility of building an application that would bring together older people, care homes, hospitals and insurance companies in one place. The platform was intended to simplify the process of searching for places in care facilities, provide transparency of application statuses, and reduce manual list management.
Challenge
The task was to design an application enabling the creation of complete patient dossiers that could be reused multiple times and submitted in parallel to multiple service providers. Application statuses had to be visible to all parties involved in the process, and the solution needed to accurately reflect the specificity and level of detail of workflows in the healthcare sector.
The challenge also included standardising waiting list management across different institutions, minimising information duplication, and ensuring timely data updates. It was necessary to deliver intuitive tools supporting the coordination of teams handling admissions and insurance cases.
Solution
Leaware designed and built Atendi.Care – a central hub connecting care homes, hospitals, insurance companies, and people searching for places in senior care facilities. The system supports the creation and sharing of patient dossiers, the submission of applications to multiple organisations at the same time, and full case tracking with status visibility for all stakeholders.
To align with operational processes, the implementation included, among other things, custom worklists, internal notes, and health assessment scales. These features organise team workflows, facilitate decision-making, and ensure consistent, contextual information throughout the entire patient service lifecycle.
A single source of truth makes it possible to keep patient data up to date, while information exchange between organisations is faster and free from unnecessary steps. As a result, the platform shortens the time needed to match patients with facilities, simplifies the handling of insurance cases, and effectively addresses the long-standing challenge of managing waiting lists.
