Business context
Önskefoto is a Swedish leader in the European market for personalised photo products, enabling customers to create photo books, wall art, calendars and prints. Despite its strong market position, the company set itself the goal of further improving user experience quality and reducing barriers to creating products from digital assets.
In 2012, Önskefoto engaged Leaware to demonstrate its capabilities in designing intuitive, interactive applications. The key objective was to deliver a convenient desktop environment that combined photo import, editing and product composition in one place, with an emphasis on fast access to assets from social media.
Challenge
The existing personalisation process was complex and time-consuming: users had to transfer photos to a computer, edit them in external programs, and then upload them again to the product creator. The multi-step workflow and the need to use several tools led to journey abandonment and inconsistent results.
There was also no simple way to import photos directly from platforms such as Instagram or Facebook, nor were there intelligent layout and auto-fill features. The challenge was to design a user-centric solution that combined simplicity with precise control, performed efficiently in a desktop environment, and significantly reduced the time needed to create products.
Solution
Leaware developed an advanced Windows desktop application for Önskefoto that became the only tool needed to create photo products. Users can build photo books directly from local assets, using a built-in editor offering cropping, rotation, correction and layout adjustments. The auto-fill function speeds up composition, while precise tools make it easy to achieve the best result.
The application was integrated with Instagram and Facebook, enabling direct photo import from users’ accounts. The intuitive interface and smooth workflow significantly reduced the number of steps needed to create a product, resulting in a faster process, higher satisfaction and stronger user engagement.
