Share a Spot: stress-free parking
Business context
In crowded US cities, drivers face a daily shortage of parking spaces, resulting in lost time, costs and frustration. The growing number of cars and limited infrastructure make finding an available space quickly a genuine challenge for millions of road users.
In 2014, Share a Spot identified a gap in the market: the need for an easy-to-use application that connects drivers looking for parking with people willing to share unused spaces in real time. The objective of the project for Leaware was to create an intuitive, cross-platform solution that would streamline everyday parking and enable the monetisation of private parking spaces.
Challenge
The key challenge was to design an extremely simple, intuitive experience for a two-sided marketplace: drivers searching for available spaces and users offering them. It was essential to keep the number of steps to a minimum and provide clear navigation that supports quick action in a busy urban environment.
The application needed to deliver reliable real-time information based on GPS while maintaining high responsiveness and stability. It was important to handle fluctuating network coverage and the synchronisation of multiple listings simultaneously, in order to minimise delays and avoid discrepancies in space availability data.
Additionally, the solution had to ensure secure transactions between users and consistent operation across iOS and Windows platforms. Maintaining uniform quality, performance and reliability in a cross-platform environment was a significant component of the project.
Solution
Leaware developed Share a Spot using ASP.NET and web technologies as the foundation of the solution, while also delivering applications for iOS and Windows. The architecture was designed for low latency and high availability to meet the demands of intensive urban user traffic.
The application interface was built around simple location- and map-based search, enabling users to quickly find available spaces nearby or list their own in just a few steps. GPS integration provides real-time updates, while a clear user flow reduces the time needed to find and reserve a space.
Mechanisms for secure user-to-user transactions were implemented, along with extensive quality and performance testing, ensuring that the application runs reliably and responsively on both platforms. The combination of ease of use, reliable location data and cross-platform availability translated into a positive experience for drivers in urban environments.
