Objective
Our primary objective was to showcase our proficiency in developing an advanced application integrating science, digital products, and medicine.
Meet the Client
This project involved developing an application for the Photon Needle management system that enables doctors to precisely use X-rays for cancer surgery. The app supports radiotherapists in managing patient data and controlling the irradiation process.
Historical Background
& Current Situation
The integration of digital technology and medical science has the potential to revolutionize healthcare. The Photon Needle management app was an opportunity for us to contribute to this innovation.
Challenge
Developing an application that seamlessly integrates with the Photon Needle Control System and adheres to the radiation safety standards and principles provided by the contracting authority was a significant challenge. We needed to ensure that the app was both functional and user-friendly for medical professionals who would use it.
Solution
We used .NET technology and the Windows Presentation Foundation graphics engine to develop the app. The application made use of a .SQLite file database. It allowed users to enter and save patient data, check the status of the generator before a procedure, monitor the irradiation process during treatment, and record the irradiation processes in the post-treatment report.
Technology
Platform
Benefits of the App
The app brought numerous benefits, including:
· Easy editing, importing, and saving of patient data in the treatment database.
· Monitoring of the generator’s tests before the procedure and production of generator test reports in PDF format.
· Verification of patient data and radiotherapy data.
Lessons Learnt
· Monitoring of the irradiation process and generation of treatment reports in PDF format.
· Detailed statistics generation.
Results
The app proved to be very effective during the testing stage. It attracted interest from several public and private healthcare entities in the European Union. The National Centre for Nuclear Research in Poland saw great potential for implementing the Photon Needle project in other ongoing healthcare projects, and there was significant interest in merging the project with cancer treatment technologies in Switzerland.
Data and Evidence
While we do not have specific quantitative data due to the confidentiality and complexity of the project, the interest shown by the National Centre for Nuclear Research and other healthcare entities serves as qualitative evidence of the app’s success and potential.
Lessons Learnt
Through this project, we gained valuable insights into the development of healthcare applications that integrate advanced scientific technology. The project reinforced our understanding of the critical importance of accuracy, user-friendliness, and adherence to safety standards in medical app development.
Photon Needle Management app development project highlights our ability to create complex, scientifically integrated applications. Our successful collaboration with the National Centre for Nuclear Research demonstrates our capacity to deliver innovative solutions that push the boundaries of technology and healthcare.
